UDF-DPP alliance ends
United Democratic Front UDF says is not in an alliance with Democratic Progressive Party DPP.
Speaking during a press briefing in Blantyre the newly endorsed party president Lilian Patel said its electoral alliance with DPP ended soon after Fresh Presidential Elections
According to Patel UDF will announce its decision on electoral alliance later adding they are focusing on rebuilding the party.
This follows an extraordinary meeting the party held following stepping down of Atupele Muluzi as the party’s president last week.
Patel says they now want to rebuild the party in accordance with its strategic plan.
Meanwhile, UDF secretary General Kandi Padambo announced that the party’s National Executive Committee has unanimously endorsed Lilian Patel as its president.
Padambo says “this is in accordance with the party’s constitution adding that new UDF leader says will hold position till its convention.”
UDF president Atupele Muluzi quit active politics to transition into business in London after leading the party for over 18 years.
He replaced his father Bakili Muluzi who ruled Malawi for two terms after defeating the first president Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda
Muluzi was the first multiparty democracy president in Malawi
