Malawi records 36 coronavirus cases

Minister of health has announced that two new corona virus cases have been registered in Lilongwe and Blantyre in the past 24 hours.

Announcing in Lilongwe Jappie Mhango said the new cases are in Chileka in Blantyre and Area 2, Livimbo in Lilongwe.

Mhango said the COVID-19 patient in Blantyre aged 47 returned from Tanzania on 18th April and was on self quarantine but that in Lilongwe aged 45 has no history of travel.

“Out team is today going to take samples from other family members. We will do contact tracing to all workers at his business premises and other close contacts,” says Health Minister

He said so far there are 36 cases, 4 recoveries, 3 deaths and the 29 cases are all clinically stable with mild symptoms.

“In the past 24 hours, Mzuzu Lab had 34 samples where 1 case came out positive, 31 negatives and 2 are pending results. Lilongwe had 3 samples, 1 positive and 2 negatives. Blantyre had 24 samples,1 positive, 22 negatives and 1 pending result,” Mhango explains

. 1 case in Nkhotakota

. 1 case in Karonga

. 1 case in Zomba

Mhango has reminded Malawians of corona virus preventive measures which are avoiding handshakes, washing hands frequently, avoiding overcrowded places, observing social distance and self quarantine of those who returned from hotpot countries.
