As one way of responding to effects of corona virus, Abode of Peace Foundation has distributed farm inputs to over 300 Muslim families in Mulanje district.
Speaking to right holders, Programs Director, Iliyasa Yasini, said covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected the country’s economy including of poor Malawians.
“My organization has decided to distribute the farm inputs to less privileged Muslims to ensure that they produce enough food next year,” Yasini
Speaking earlier, one of the renowned Sheikhs in comparative religion, Sheikh Abdulkarim Hamidu Kamwendo, advised the beneficiaries to put into use the inputs they have received.
Sheikh Kamwendo thanked the organization for the donation saying it will assist people in the area to have bumper yields next year.
He also called upon other organizations to emulate the good gesture and reach out to other families.
Among others each family has received 2 bags of fertilizer weighing 50 kgs each and 10 kgs of maize seeds.
Abode of Peace Foundation is a charitable organization based in Zimbabwe currently working in both Malawi and Zimbabwe.
Thereafter the Foundation advised people who have benefited from this year’s free farm input program to ensure the program achieves intended purpose.
The appeal was made after the Foundation distributed bags of fertilizer and maize seeds to over 100 Muslim families in Traditional Authority Amidu, Balaka district.
Speaking after the exercise, one of the members of Abode of Peace Foundation, Patrick Nix Ommar, said the whole purpose of the program is to ensure that less privileged Muslim families have enough food next year.
“Our team will be supervising and monitoring each farmer up to the harvesting period,” Ommar
On his part Group Village Headman Sumani of the area commended the organization for the timely support.
Group Village Headman Sumani said his people have been in acute hunger due to effects of climate change such as drought and floods.
He said the donation will in one way reduce hunger problem as fertilizer and seeds have been a major challenge to his people.
Abode of Peace Foundation has also distributed free bags of fertilizer and maize seeds to Muslim farmers in Dedza district
