African Development Bank ADB has said there is need to ensure sustainable development in the transportation sector.

Officer in charge of African Development Bank in Malawi Eyerusalem Fikisa made the remarks during the opening of the 10th joint transport sector review in Lilongwe.

Fikisa urged the country to mobilize resources for all transportation modes which include rail, road and water systems.

“I encourage the Ministry of Transport to continue identifying opportunities to make transportation more affordable, safe and efficient to people of Malawi,” said Fikisa

In his remarks, principal secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Public works Francis Chinsinga said they plan to reduce transport costs.
