Africa’s top public health agency has said several outbreaks of monkeypox in Africa have been contained during the Covid-19 pandemic but outbreaks in Europe and United States are a concern.

In a weekly news briefing Ahmed Ogwell Ouma, acting director of Africa Centre for Disease Control CDC said outbreaks had been seen in Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Cameroon and Central African Republic.

Ouma said they also expect that other outbreaks will come and will handle them in the usual way

However Africa CDC is concerned at the multiple countries outside, especially in Europe, that are seeing outbreaks of monkeypox.

Ouma said it would be very useful for knowledge to be shared regarding what the source of these outbreaks actually are
