Government has said construction of international airport and five star hotel at Cape Maclear in Mangochi will start in 2022 after preliminary survey.

Briefing stakeholders at Mangochi Town Council Deputy Director of Tourism responsible for planning and development Nowa Nasongole said the project worth one billion dollars will be implemented with funding from African Export Bank of Egypt.

“Through the project two other developments will be conducted in Blantyre and Liwonde,” Nasongole said

In his comment, Minister of transport and public works Ralph Juma thanked president Mutharika for the development which will be conducted in his area and other parts of Mangochi.

Juma said “the development will transform people’s lives in Mangochi because they will have access to jobs and do businesses since many tourists will be flocking there.”

During a victory rally in Mangochi president Mutharika promised to make the Town a City after constructing the five star hotel.
