CSOs call for issue-based campaign

Civil Society Organizations have asked leaders of the two political alliances to stop castigating each other during campaign rallies.

This follows the current wave of insults and attacks on individuals of an opponent team ahead of the Fresh Presidential Elections which will take place in a couple of weeks to come.

Speaking during a press briefing in Blantyre, organized by Islamic Commission for Justice and Freedom, Joint Civil Society of Platform for Constructive Dialogue and Stream of Life Malawi, Caesar Kondowe, said many political leaders are using campaign as an instrument to harass, demonize, defame and repress their political opponents.

Kondowe said “the country is not ready to usher into the high office of presidency people who are careless in their speech.”

He cited the recent campaign rally by the MCP-UTM alliance where its leaders took turns in insulting members of DPP-UDF alliance a thing he said is uncalled for.
