A four year-old boy has drowned at Malunda village in Nkhotakota district.
According to Nkhotakota police public relations officer Paul Malimwe on the day the mother went to a maize field leaving the deceased with other young boys.
Later the children went to play to the river some metres away from home.
“Suddenly, the deceased fell down along river banks and was washed away by the floods,” Malimwe said.
Postmortem at Nkhotakota district hospital established that the death was due to suffocation.
Meanwhile, police is urging parents and guardians to take good care of young children especially this rainy season to avoid similar cases.
