Five Candidates Show Interest in Lilongwe South by-elections

Five people have submitted nomination papers to contest in the forth coming parliamentary by-elections in Lilongwe south constituency.

The candidates are Frank Mazizi of Democratic Progressive Party, Samson Phinifolo of UTM party, Peter Dimba of Malawi Congress Party, Patson Mthyoka Independent and Julius Gracian Chongwe of Mbakuwaku Movement for Democracy MMD.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Lilongwe South Constituency Returning Officer Innocent Mkandawire said nomination process is very important as it decides whether a candidate is eligible to contest or not.

Mkandawire revealed that only two candidates of UTM and MMD had brought forms during the fresh nomination process.

“Other 3 candidates had already done so prior to the suspended 21 May parliamentary election in the area and were only required to write a letter expressing their intent to contest again,” disclosed Mkandawire

He urged the candidates to be agents of peace during their campaign and co-exist with one another for the delivery of a free and fair by-election.

Group Village Headman Samuel appealed to the aspirants to fulfill their promises when elected.
