Hospital Attendant Slapped 3 Years Imprisonment

Hospital attendant has been slapped with 3 years for stealing medical drugs in Nkhata-bay district.

According to Nkhatabay police public relations officer Kondwani Nkhata-bay first grade magistrate court convicted Jackson Mwafulirwa 41.

The court through state prosecutor heard that a team under Ministry of Health, drug inspection unit branch had an inspection on medical drug usage in hospitals and clinics in the district and dealing with drug dealers.

“The team which involved police in its operation on 2nd July 2019 inspected Nkhatabay district hospital where the convict was found with assorted medical drugs suspected to have been stolen at the hospital,” said James

The man was arrested by the team and brought to Nkhatabay police.

He was charged with an offence being found in possession of medical drugs suspected to have been stolen.

“Appearing in court on 4th July, 2019 the convict pleaded guilty to the count. The prosecutor Chilambo pleaded with the court to stiffen punishment against the convict,”added Mwafulirwa

In mitigation the convict prayed for lenient punishment saying that he is the bread winner.

In passing sentence first grade magistrate Robert Makaika expressed worry over the convict’s conduct.

He said that stealing drugs in hospital is equivalent to killing. Jackson Mwafulirwa comes from Lemuro village TA Kyungu in Karonga district.
