Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development has assured farmers not to despair as reports indicate that army worms are attacking the maize crop in some parts of the southern region.

Speaking to radio Islam, spokesperson in the ministry Hamilton Chimala said government has already bought medication to deal with the problem.

“The country experiences army worm attacks each growing season and government is always on high alert,” Chimala said.

Army worms are said to have attacked maize in Mangochi, Phalombe and Blantyre.
