Asian Muslim Relief Aid AMRA has donated relief items worth ten million kwacha to people who were affected by heavy rains in some parts of Blantyre City, Malawi.
Speaking to Radio Islam after donating the items to affected people in Kachere and Machinjiri areas , one of the officials of AMRA Aamir Jakhura said the Asian community decided to assist the affected people after noticing that their houses and properties were damaged by heavy rains that fell for a week in Blantyre.
Jakhura further said the assistance is part of social responsibility from the Asian community living in Malawi.
He said currently AMRA is planning to visit other districts such as Chikwawa and Nsanje to distribute relief items to affected people as one way of complementing government efforts in assisting disaster affected people.
Speaking on behalf of the people councilor for Mapanga ward Songwe Kawaye commended AMRA for the kind gesture adding the donation has come at a right time as some of the affected people had no food in their homes.
Kawaye urged other well wishers to emulate the good gesture.
