BIU students protest against interest on fees

Students at Blantyre International University BIU have vowed to continue with the idea of seeking court interpretation on the legality of charging interest on tuition fees.

Speaking with radio Islam, leader of the Students Union Osman Kennedy said the students feel they are being ripped off by asking them to pay interest on school fees.

“The injunction was a temporary relief and they will address the issue through courts so that the matter is addressed once and for all,” said Kennedy.

Two weeks ago the students obtained a court injunction restraining the school from barring those who did not pay interest from sitting for examinations.

The court gave the students an opportunity to extend the injunction after ten days.
