Britain empowers Malawian youth

British Council has encouraged the youth to start small businesses which can save them from challenges they face.

This was said in Lilongwe during a program known as Pitch Night which is monthly event introduced by British Council with an aim of encouraging the youth in creating jobs in order to be self reliant.

During the function young people displayed some of the entrepreneurship skills.

Speaking during the event guest of honour Nicholas Kumwenda who is the owner of Wealth-net Finance company said the platform is very paramount as it promotes entrepreneurship that provides access to financing and market linkages among others.

“Malawi cannot manage to create enough jobs therefore you should work hard to rely on yourself,” said Kumwenda.

The youth who sells clothes Mphatso Phiri said she had decided to start the business after completing tertiary education because was failing to get a job.

Phiri said government is not helping the youth therefore they must do different businesses to earn a living.

“Of course government is trying its best to change welfare of Malawians but there is a lot to be desired,” Mphatso said.
