China pledges k11bn food aid & 100 vehicles to Malawi

Government of China says will continue helping Malawi in order to improve its social economic status.

This was said in Lilongwe during the signing of economic and technical cooperation agreement for humanitarian food assistance and exchange of letters for police vehicles between the two governments.

Speaking at the function Ambassador of China to Malawi Wang Shi Ting said in response to the natural disaster and erratic weather conditions his country will provide emergency humanitarian food assistance valued at ten Million United States Dollars Malawi.

“The first batch of rice will arrive in Lilongwe in 3 months time to alleviate food shortages in some districts and Chinese government will donate 100 vehicles to Malawi Police service by the end of this year,” said Ting.

Speaking on behalf of government Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Goodal Gondwe said the assistance had come at a right time as Malawi is facing a lot of challenges.

” We thank China for the donation because our police officers have been failing to execute their duties effectively due to transportation problems,” Gondwe said.
