FEDOMA calls for commission of inquiry on albino attacks

Federation for Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA) has called on government to institute a Commission of inquiry to establish the truth on the killings of people with albinism.

Executive Director for FEDOMA, Action Amos, made the proposition in Phalombe during a community sensitization meeting aimed at mobilising citizens to protect people with disabilities and promote their rights.

“My organization was shocked with the recent abduction of a boy with albinism in the district on Independence Day,” Amos said

He called on police to conduct comprehensive investigation into the case so that every suspect in the abduction of the child is brought to book.

Meanwhile, association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi APAM says they expect a positive response from government on their request of a commission of inquiry.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam, APAM’S executive director Overstone Kondowe said “we have been asking government on the issue for a long time but nothing tangible has happened.”

He said the barbaric acts can end if markets of body parts of persons with albinism are identified.
