Fire guts capital city market

Fire has gutted Lilongwe central market damaging merchandise worth millions of Kwacha’s.

According to police the fire occurred on Friday dawn but fire extinguishers went to the market when many shops had been destroyed.

One of the eye witnesses Andrew Phiri who is also the vendor at the market said the fire spread quickly because of unskilled fire extinguishers and lack of equipment.

“Cause of the accident is not yet known and this has occurred weeks after another gutted Kachikungu minibus depot in the same city,” the vendor said.
