Islamic Relief Malawi Commemorates World Aids Day

Government has commended Islamic Relief Malawi for complimenting its efforts in the fight against HIV-AIDS among the youths.

This was said during commemorations of world aids day organized by Young Achievers for Development YAD at Zingwangwa in Blantyre.

Speaking at the event, Blantyre Urban Youth officer, Daud Gwala said there is need to safeguard the youth as they are backbone of the nation.

Gwala said “HIV and AIDS prevalence rate in Blantyre is at 18.6% hence the call for behavior change.”

In his remarks Islamic Relief Malawi programs officer, Jonathan Kandiero, said his organisation thought of engaging the youth to reduce the challenges they are facing.

“Among others we handed over sports materials to over four youth clubs within Sochi area,” Kandiero said

Jefferson Milanzi executive director of YAD said it is important for the young people to know their HIV status.

He said with the introduction of self test there is no need to feel shy or be afraid of getting tested for HIV.
