Govt urged to provide adequate transformers in rural areas

Members of parliament have asked the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Environment to provide adequate transformers in rural areas to ensure that villagers are accessing electricity.

The parliamentarians have said this in the National Assembly. Uladi Mussa of Salima South said many trading centres in remote areas are not electrified because of lack of transformers. Mussa said if the Ministry does not install transformers in rural areas the country will continue to be under-developed.

He said electricity is very crucial in the development of any country because many activities cannot be done without it. In her remarks legislator for Mangochi South Lilian Patel said lack of transformers in her constituency is a big problem which needs to be resolved immediately.

Patel said in her area many areas are not electrified citing an example of the school which has been without electricity since its establishment many years ago due to lack of transformers.
