HRCC Appeals For Dissolution Of Presidential Committee On Albinism

Human Rights Consultative Committee HRCC has appealed for dissolution of presidential committee on persons with albinism and reconstitute it with new committed individuals.

Chairperson of HRCC Robert Mkwezalamba has said this in reaction to the recent killing of person with albinism in Nkhatabay district.

Mkwezalamba said HRCC is concerned with the killing of Yasin Phiri 54 and violation of rights of his three children.

He also condemned exhumation of remains of person with albinism at Mamu village in Mangochi district.

“HRCC is against unprofessional conduct of police officers hence calling for vigilance of law enforcers and leaders against attacks of persons with albinism,” said Mkwezalamba

HRCC chair said there is need to institute permanent police road blocks and scanning facilities for weapons of criminals.

Mkwezalamba added that government should undertake a due diligence of police service and empower them with state of art equipment.

He called for national all inclusive stakeholder’s conference with support from development partners to analyse and develop national appropriate responses in line with the national action plan on protection of persons with albinism.

“We appeal to head of state to appoint visionary chiefs within the army and police who will work odd hours to apprehend suspects,” added Mkwezalamba

He asked for creation of a fund to empower families with persons with albinism as a means of enabling them to meet basic needs.

Meanwhile, police report indicates that four men have been arrested in connection with the killing of Yasin Phiri.
