K80m Needed To Rehabilitate Chikwawa District Council

Chikwawa District Council says 80 million kwacha is needed to rehabilitate its offices and equipment damaged by heavy rains.

According to district commissioner Lusizi Nshane said council officials and traditional leaders are expected to meet soon to discuss how to raise the money.

Nshane said they have found a temporary office where they will be handling some of its work.

On Sunday 13th February 2019, heavy rains accompanied by strong winds damaged government offices and houses in Chikwawa and Zomba.

On Monday principal secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development visited the council, prison and villages which were affected by the heavy rains and strong winds.

spokesperson of the Ministry Mushabase Mughogho confirmed to Radio Islam that many things were destroyed.

Later in the day officials of Ministry of Finance, Economic planning and development went to Chikwawa district council to assess the damage.
