Malawi launches Agriculture & Irrigation Policy

Farmer’s Union of Malawi FUM has applauded government for developing the long awaited agriculture and irrigation policy.

Prince Kaponda Mgaga executive director of FUM has said this during the launch of Agriculture and irrigation policy at Bingu International Conference center in Lilongwe.

“The policy will help farmers realize more yields thereby developing the economy of the country,” Kaponda Mgaga said.

While acknowledging the good job done by government, Kaponda Mgaga cried foul over government’s negligence in implementing different policies that have been launched in the country.

He then asked government to implement the new policy as soon as possible so as to achieve its intended purpose.

According to ministry of agriculture the policy has taken two years to be developed.

Present at the launch was president of Republic of Malawi Prof Arthur Peter Muthalika, virgia Palmer US ambassador to Malawi, cabinet ministers and members of parliament among others.
