Malawians march against gender based violence

Police have arrested a protester who carried a placard that had an insulting message during a march against sexual and gender based violence.

During the march in Lilongwe concerned Malawians asked government to act on rampant sexual and gender based violence.

Submitting the petition on behalf of Malawians chairperson of women caucus in parliament Dr Jessie Kabwira asked authorities to act on gender based violence.

“We appeal to president Mutharika and ministry of gender to deal with sexual and gender based violence which is on the rise in the country,” pleaded Kabwira

Receiving the petition clement Mkhumbwa of Ministry of gender said they take proper action.

“We will analyze it and do what is required,” Mkhumbwa said.

One of the prominent people during the march was speaker of parliament Richard Msowoya.

Msowoya asked Malawians to unite and speak out to end gender based violence.

Meanwhile, the female protester has been released on bail.
