Mayaya faults govt on public hospitals’ fees

One of the human rights activists in the country Billy Mayaya says government’s plan to introduce fees in public hospitals is not a good idea. Mayaya has said this after spokesperson of the Ministry of Health Henry Chimbali said government is planning to introduce the fees.

According to Mayaya, the majority of citizens lives in abject poverty and cannot afford to pay the money. He said Malawians pay tax and the money is used to buy medicine in hospitals as such there is no need to introduce fees in government health facilities. Mayaya said subsidizing cement and iron sheets is a welcome development but subsiding medicine in public hospitals should be the first priority.
