Muslim Women donate to Malawi prison

Muslim women organization in Thyolo has held a lunch-on and donated assorted food items at Bvumbwe young offenders Rehabilitation centre.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam, the group’s chairlady Patuma Josamu said they decided to donate at the centre after noting the challenges Muslims are facing.

Josamu said they visited the centre on 19th May where they made donations of iftar to the young offenders and they thought it wise to cerebrate eid-ulfitri with them.

“I urge them to take their situation as a turning point and fear ALLAH. Let me thank my fellow women and Muslims in Thyolo for their contributions towards the course,” Josamu said

In his remarks, chaplain for Bvumbwe Young Offenders Rehabilitation centre, Steven Chikosa thanked the Muslim women for their timely visit.

“The center is facing numerous challenges which cannot be solved by government alone hence calling upon other well wishers to emulate the gesture,” Chikosa said

He bemoaned low patronage of Muslim groups to the prison which makes the boys lack encouragement.

In a related development, Iman sisters in Thyolo have donated assorted food items to Makande Prison.

Chairlady for Thyolo Iman Sisters Aisha Mustafa said “we decided to donate food items worth 150 thousand kwacha as part of Eid celebrations.”

Mustapa said inmates at the prison are facing a number of challenges as they are not visited by organizations frequently.
