Muslims Commemorate World Aids Day

Muslim students in the country have been tipped on the fight against HIV and AIDS.

Member of Parliament for Mangochi Masongola constituency Pemba Msusa was speaking during the commemoration of World Aids Day commemoration at Mama Khadija girls’ Academy.

Msusa said Muslim students should abstain in order to have HIV free generation.

“It is very important that Muslim youth observe discipline in order to achieve their goals,” Msusa said.

Commenting, Dr Aisha Katita from Kamuzu central hospital encouraged the girls to go for HIV testing to know their sero status and take leading role in fighting against the pandemic.

Dr Katita discouraged early marriages as they contribute to spread of HIV and Aids as well as Fistula.

Ibrahim Gambuleni lab officer from Mwanza district hospital said the country has done tremendous strides to combat the pandemic.

In her remarks Dr Halima Wadi Medical director at Mama Khadija Clinic said “we thought of commemorating the day with the girls as they are more vulnerable to HIV and Aids than other groups.”

Dr Wadi said there is need to impart knowledge about HIV and Aids to girls.
