Malawi Parliament has passed Corrupt Practices Amendment Bill.

The bill is meant to change appointment of director of ant corruption bureau which was being done by the president.

Speaking after passing the bill, Minister of justice and constitutional affairs Samuel Tembenu assured Malawians of the independence of the director of ant-corruption bureau.

“Now a committee of 7 people which will be appointed and approved by members of parliament will be responsible for the selection of three people and the president will appoint one of them,” Tembenu explained

Meanwhile, opposition members of parliament are not happy with the bill saying nothing has changed.

Leader of opposition in parliament Dr Lazarus Chakwera said “Malawians should expect continuous corruption by government officials.”
