The medical official at Chilumba Health centre in Karonga district is reportedly denying to provide medical attention to patients from some parts of Karonga South Constituency for not voting for the independent candidate James Mapunga who supported the facility with drugs and other equipment.

A visit to the hospital yesterday found that patients especially from Bundi village, the home ground of the newly elected parliamentarian Malani Mtonga were going back without accessing medical attention as the hospital official only identified as Ngwira told them to access medicine from the candidate they voted for.

When asked about this development, Public Relations Officer for Karonga district hospital Christopher Singini said he will be able to comment on the matter after verifying with other officials at the health centre.

He however said such conduct is illegal and the district’s health authorities will take action against the official if they establish that the matter is true.

This is happening as reports are indicating that some aspiring parliamentarians who failed during tripartite elections are planning to abolish the initiatives they introduced in their areas.
