President Mutharika Picks Everton Chimulirenji As Running Mate

President Professor Peter Muthalika has picked Everton Chimulirenji as his running mate and presented his nomination papers to Malawi Electoral Commission.

Introducing Chimulirenji Mutharika said he comes from Ntcheu district, is MP, Minister and well educated.

Mutharika emphasized that the vice president is always delegated and not the co-president.

The president then urged people to conduct peaceful campaign.

In the morning, Malawi Electoral Commission MEC dismissed nomination papers of independent presidential candidate Smart Swira.

MEC chairperson Justice Dr Jane Ansah said Swira did not bring evidence that he is a citizen of Malawi, not paid 2 million kwacha, is not a registered voter and failed to bring his running mate.

However, Ansah told Swira that he could be considered if he had fulfilled all the requirements before 4 o’clock today.

In his remarks, Swira said he has the national identity card and is a registered voter but the electoral body did not ask him to provide the said documents.

Then, Loudon Malinga Moyo of National Salvation Front NASAF presented his nomination papers with his running mate Mrs Ethel Chanda.

Independent presidential candidate Reverend Kaliya also presented his nomination papers.
