Strike at ADMARC

Strike at ADMARC

As few weeks have elapsed since Executive director of ADMARC Foster Mlumbe resumed work after being sent on forced leave for allegedly plundering money for procurement of maixe in Xambia, employees at the parastatal body have staged a strike.

When radio Islam’s reporter visited headquarters of ADMARC at Limbe he found that the workers were outside the premises chanting songs.

Speaking to Radio Islam spokesperson of the strikers Lukas Steve, said the workers are demanding salary increment from k28, 000 to k150, 000 per month.

“We had been discussing their grievances with management since 2013 but nothing tangible came out of the talks,” disclosed Steve.

He said they were waiting to meet Mlumbe as he had promised to hold a discussion with them.

ADMARC public relations officer Agnes Chikoko confirmed the development but refused to give more information.

Speaking to radio Islam after a two-hour discussion with Chief Executive officer for ADMARC and his management, Lukas Steve said their boss had set an ultimatum of three days to resolve issues surrounding salary increment.

“Some workers such as security guards would resume their work today but others after management sorts out our grievances,” he said.

Meanwhile, they have resumed working because management has agreed to increase their salary with arrears from July 2016 and thereafter a 50 percent increment from July 2017.

“Housing allowance will be increased fro K2000 to K15,000, leave grant from K5000 to K50,000 while lunch allowance will be at K2500 from K1000,” said one of the employees.
