Tanzania donates maize and medical drugs to Malawi flood victims.

The Republic of Tanzania has donated 1200 metric tones of maize and 66 tones of medical drugs to Malawi government that is intended to assist thousands of people who were affected by floods.
Speaking to this radio after presenting the donation at Songwe border in Karonga Tanzania High commissioner Patrick Tsele said the donation follows the appeal made by Malawi president Professor Peter Mutharika to the international community after declaring that the country was a disaster state.
“My country was deeply concerned with the situation Malawi is facing considering that the two nations are neighbours,” expressed Tsele.
In his part the country’s secretary and commissioner for disaster management affairs Paul Chiunguzeni said the assistance had come at a right time when many flood victims may not harvest anything as they spent the whole rainy season at the evacuation camp and their crops were washed away.
Chiunguzeni told this radio that “the donated maize and drugs will be stored temporarily at Kapolo ADMARC station waiting to be transferred to intended areas.”
The maize was brought into Malawi yesterday using 46 Tanzania military trucks.
