President of United Democratic Front UDF Atupele Muluzi has challenged the newly elected executive committee members to put an extra gear in preparations for 2019 tripartite elections.

Muluzi was speaking during a rally held in Mangochi district on Sunday where he also disclosed his intention to contest as the presidential candidate.

Addressing a huge crowd at St Augustine 3 primary school in Mangochi Atupele Muluzi said UDF wants leaders who are vibrant, active and can deliver the best to people.

“UDF is the only party which can bring change in Malawi and deliver to the expectations of Malawians,” Muluzi said

Therefore, he challenged new executive committee members to be vigilant and patient for the party to maintain its momentum at the grass-root level.

“Politicians in the country to desist from castigating others but conduct issue based campaign in order to find solutions to problems which Malawians are encountering,” he said

Muluzi said will contest as presidential candidate in 2019 tripartite elections as he joined politics to develop Malawi.

He further said Malawians need to have permanent jobs for them to be independent and take care of their families.

“Lazy leaders saying party will dismiss those who will underperform as the party has a lined a number of activities to be done ahead of 2019 polls,” Muluzi warned

Commenting vice president of UDF in the eastern region Lillian Patel acknowledged that the party performed poorly in 2014 due to poor coordination among leaders in the district.

“As newly elected members will make sure that they get all sits from eastern region come 2019 election as they have put aside measures of boosting support,” Patel said.

However, Patel lamented the poor turnout of people during nation registration campaign.

Therefore, she has appealed to communities in the eastern region to register when the registration exercise begins in their districts.
