UN & Malawi Sign MOU

United Nations (UN) agencies say are committed to establish initiatives aimed at promoting good governance in the country.

UN representative, Maria Jose Torres said Tuesday during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Malawi National Assembly and UN held at Parliament Building in Lilongwe.

Torres said the MoU the two signed has true manifesto of delivering programs that would promote good governance in the country.

She added the UN Reform process was sanctioned by the (UN) member states to improve operations for the agenda 2030, which targets promotion of good governance.

Torres was optimistic the signing of the MoU was a genuine proof of UN’s commitment to work together with Government of Malawi in promoting good governance.

She said the UN agenda 2030 required concerted efforts between the UN and Malawi Government, and that parliament has a great role to play.

In his speech, Speaker of National Assembly, Richard Msowoya expressed his gratitude to UN, saying its initiative would help to improve parliamentary services, hence the promotion of good governance in the country.

Msowoya further said the signing of MoU would help to shift parliamentary operations to higher levels.

UN Women and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) were the UN agencies present during the signing ceremony.
