Voters’ Register Inspection Starts Next Week

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has said inspection of voters’ register exercise will run from December 10, 2018 to January 9, 2019.

In a press release made available to Radio Islam chief elections officer for MEC Sam Alufandika says the centres will also open during lunch hour and weekends.

Alufandika says the centres will also run for full hours during Christmas and New Year holidays in four phases of five days each.

“Registered voters will verify their details by sending free SMS with their voter number 5VOTE (58683),” said Alufandika.

He added voters who lost their certificates should go to centres where they registered to get duplicate certificates which will enable them vote easily on May 21, 2019.

“The Commission will process transfers for people who have moved away from the centre where they registered,” added Alufandika

Meanwhile, National Registration bureau has said about 650 Malawians were registered for national IDs in the voter registration exercise.

Public relations officer for the bureau Norman Fulatira has told radio Islam that issuance of the IDs will begin on 10 December, 2018.
