Youth parliament in September

Dowa District Youth Officer, Jessie Mwansambo, has asked aspirants for youth parliamentary seats in the district to apply for a vacancy in readiness for youth parliament to be held next month.

Speaking during a full council meeting, Mwansambo said application forms have been sent to all chiefs in the district for young people to apply by Friday 2nd September as the interviews will be held on Wednesday the following week.

Mwansambo said last year, youth aspirants were shortlisted in their constituencies but parliament failed to meet because of funding.

“Eligible applicants are the youth in primary, secondary and colleges aged 10 to 29 who can speak English fluently,” Mnthambaxi said.

She therefore appealed to chiefs, councillors and MPs to disseminate the message to all aspiring youth in their areas.

Dowa District Councils Chair, Councillor Martin Luka Phiri, said the council is happy to learn that this year’s youth parliament will take place.

“The council appreciates the role the youth are playing in the development of the district,” Phiri said.

He added that the youth should champion reforms in their areas for the district to develop.
