MEC changes presiding officers identification procedure

Malawi Electoral Commission MEC has changed the procedure for identification of Presiding Officers in an effort to improve electoral processes and results management.

In a press release to inform Malawians on the end of campaign period for by elections in Lilongwe South constituency on 28th January Chief elections officer of MEC Sam Alufandika says to that effect, the commission advertised for the positions of presiding officers.

However, the Commission did not receive adequate applications and it has resorted to use its experienced staff as presiding officers.

“The Presiding Officers who worked during the last Tripartite Elections in the constituency will be utilized as Polling Station Operations Officers,” says Alufandika

He has reminded candidates, political parties, stakeholders and the general public that it is violation of law to campaign outside this period.
