Malawi Human Rights Commission MHRC has demanded government to conduct a thorough and transparent audit of the K6.2 billion to ensure rights are not violated.

According to a statement signed by the commission’s executive secretary Habiba Osman calls on government to expeditiously act on the questions and concerns that have arisen on the funds which were released for Covid-19 fight.

Osman says every kwacha of those funds be transparently accounted for to the public without delay.

MHRC recommends that an oversight body need to be equipped to monitor the usage of Covid-19funds because the Taskforce has failed to deliver on the President’s directive of complying with 48 hours directive

“The Commission reiterates that government should ensure maximum accountability on Covid-19 funds,” Osman

Osman says government should learn and act on the observations and recommendations that other governance bodies as well as stakeholders made on usage of the funds to the previous government.
