Ministry of Health Warns Employees Charging Patients In Public Hospitals

Ministry of health and population has warned its employees who are charging patients on services provided in public hospitals

Secretary for the Ministry Dan Namalika issued the warning saying such services are free.

Namalika says disciplinary action shall be leveled against any employee found demanding or collecting money from patients.

“Employees found guilty of an offence shall be dismissed in accordance with the Malawi Public Service Regulations (MPSR),” he said

He has therefore advised the general public to report to hospital authorities and office of ombudsman any employee involved in the malpractice.

Namalika reminded all employees in public hospitals to display their identification cards or tags when providing services to patients.

“The Ministry will be monitoring hospital management in all hospitals on enforcement of this directive and shall take disciplinary action against any hospital management which fails to comply with this order,” he emphasised

However, Namalika says some hospitals have paying wings for those who are voluntarily willing to access paying service.
