Muslims Donate To Dzaleka Refugee Camp

Muslim Women Organisation (MWO) has donated food items to Dzaleka Refugee camp as food situation continues to worsen at the camp.

The food situation  has reached critical stages after UNHCR through World Food Programme reduced food rations by almost half due to insufficient funding.

Last month, WFP called for immediate funding for rations warning they might completely end food rations by this August, should there be no more funding.

Speaking during the donation to 800 families at the camp National Coordinator of MWO Khadija Hamdan urged Muslim community to support the refugees.

Hamdan said the situation is getting out of hand hence the need for Muslims of good will to reach out to the refugees to salvage the situation.

“The donation is worthy 11 million kwacha,” dislosed Hamdan

In his remarks, Ishmael Suwedi, leader of Muslim population at the camp, whilst commending MWO for the donation called for others to come to their rescue as they are now receiving 6kgs of maize from 13kgs per month.

He said refugees have no means of earning a living adding they rely on these rations for survival.
