NONM orders health workers to leave dangerous workplaces

Health rights activist has backed the directive of National Organisation of Nurses and Midwifes NOMN that health workers should leave working places when their lives and families are in danger.

NONM made that decision after some villagers beat up a nurse in Dowa and destroyed his property because of negligence.

Commenting, Dorothy Ngoma advised people to stop taking the law in their hands whenever disagreement occurs with health personnel but report to District Health Office

In his remarks Chairperson of NONM Shout Simeza said “we expect communities to respect health workers and the services they offer to them.”

Many health workers have been arrested in Malawi for drug theft and abuse of patients.
