Parliament inquires NICE on coronavirus, elections

Parliamentary committee on social and community welfare has inquired National Initiative for Civic Education NICE on its silence in spreading corona virus and elections messages.

Speaking chairperson of the committee Savel Kafafa said they were surprised to see that NICE had been quite on these two critical issues when its role is to civic educate the masses

“Since they have known that NICE lacks money to spread the messages the committee will talk to Cabinet committee on corona virus to fund the initiative so that it sensitizes the nation on the pandemic,” explains Kafafa

Speaking during the meeting entitled NICE Management on COVID-19 and preparedness in awareness raising NICE executive director Ollen Mwalubunju asked government to be inclusive in the management of corona virus.

“COVID-19 preparedness and response plan should not only be government centred and monopolized but the resources reach nongovernmental organizations so that everyone can play a part in fighting the disease,” Mwalubunju stressed

On lockdown he said the issue needs discussion with various stakeholders because many people depend on raising money daily to survive.

Mwalubunju denounced politicizing the pandemic hence asking government and the opposition to put their differences aside in this pandemic
