Parliament sends pension act amendment bill to legal and finance committees

National assembly has agreed to send pension act amendment bill to legal and finance committees of parliament.

The motion of the bill was moved by MP for Blantyre City East John Bande.

Bande said current pension act has some chapters which should be corrected

Then members of parliament agreed that adhoc committee, Minister of local government and council technocrats should meet to discuss guidelines of constituency development fund CDF.

The Agreement was made after the law makers complained of many irregularities in the management of CDF by council officials.

Among others they said “the technocrats do not consult the legislators on the use of fund and payment of the money as compensation to vendors.”

The Minister of local government asked the Members of parliament to participate in council meetings because that is the good forum where such issues should be discussed

Earlier speaker of parliament Catherine Gotani Hara announced that some words which were exaggerated in the Hansard after chairperson of budget and Finance committee commented on the 2020 to 2021 budget should be removed.

As per today’s parliamentary program the first activity was questions, followed by ministerial statements then private members bills which were pension act and pregnancy termination.

However the MPs initially waived the questions to bills but after the pension act discussion the parliamentarians skipped the pregnancy termination bill to CDF then question time.
