Parliament to communicate president decision to Concourt

Parliament has said is proceeding to communicate to Constitutional court Concourt the decisions of the president on electoral reforms bills and commissioners of Malawi Electoral Commission.

Speaker of national assembly Catherine Gotani Hara has said this after Professor Peter Mutharika withheld assenting to the 4 bills and rejecting to fire the commissioners.

Hara says he received the bills from Mutharika on 20th March and will communicate them to the constitutional court through High and Supreme courts.

“In line with section 73 of the constitution the four private member’s bills were sent to the president for his assent. In line with section 75 (4) of the constitution the Public Appointments Committee submitted a report to the president recommending the removal of current commissioners of Malawi Electoral Commission,” explains Hara

She has assured the public that national assembly will continue to abide by any court rulings to ensure respect of separation of powers and rule of law.
