SOS Children’s Village Malawi says it’s save my mother project has been a success.

Save my mother project was being implemented in Chikwawa with an aim of reducing cervical cancer related deaths through provision of resources and raising awareness on the need for women to go for screening.

Speaking during an event organized to bid farewell to communities of Chikwawa, save my mother project coordinator George Kasawala said the project has helped to boost activities related to the fight against cervical cancer in the district.

Kasawala said as the project phase out, his organization will continue to monitor the progress of the fight against the disease in the district.

Speaking during the same function, Chikwawa district acting director of health and social services Dr Stalin Zinkanda said as the project is phasing his office will continue to work with other partners in fighting against the disease.

However, Zinkanda said it is still a challenge for the district to get patients suspected to have cancer over to specialized level facilities to get their biopsies tested.

He commended SOS Children’s Village Malawi for implementing the project in Chikwawa which he said has helped to raise awareness on cervical cancer.

The project was being implemented with financial support from SOS Netherlands.
