UTM suspends regional secretary over immigrants

UTM has suspended its Regional Secretary for the North Jane Mbale on her alleged involvement in aiding illegal immigrants using party vehicle.

This comes days after police in the northern region arrested Mbale over the offense

Speaking in an interview with Radio Islam, UTM spokesperson, Frank Mwenefumbo says the conduct by Mbale is against provision of the party‘s constitution.

“The suspension will remain in force until judgement of the case is delivered,” Mwenefumbo

Reacting to this development, a political scientist of University of Malawi, Ernest Thindwa, says this is the case because many political party leaders do not have other means of survival.

According to Thindwa most of the party members join politics to accomplish their personal desires without fully understanding political parties’ ideologies.
