BCC & ABC embark on street kids withdrawal campaign

Blantyre City Council in conjunction with Asian Business Community have embarked on campaign of withdrawing street kids from the City

Speaking during a press briefing, Mayor for Blantyre City Wild Ndipo said the street kids will be taken to various places where they will be equipped with different skills

Ndipo said Blantyre city alone has over 1700 street kids and 80% of them have their homes as well as parents while 20% do not have

“A lot of individuals and organizations have shown interest to adopt and give them support in terms of education and other skills,” said the Mayor

Speaking to Radio Islam Chairman for Asian Business Community Ikbar Omar said they will support the initiative by providing basic needs to the children through Blantyre City Council

“This is one way of integrating the street connected children back to the society and being connected to their relative,” Omar said

He said their organization will also empower the parents of these children so that they should not return to the streets
