Presidential task force turns down teachers request for covid-19 risk allowances

Presidential taskforce has turned down a request by teachers to grant them covid-19 risk allowances

The request has been rejected as teachers are on stay away strike to force government give them the allowances and address other grievances

Confirming the development minister of education Agness Nyalonje said “the taskforce looked at budgetary consequences the allowances could come with.”

Nyalonje said this in a ministerial statement on preparedness for school reopening which she presented to parliament

Leader of the house Richard Chimwendo Banda has warned against politicizing teachers’ risk allowances

Chimwendo Banda said “if that issue was important DPP government would have given teachers allowances.”

However DPP legal affairs Bright Msaka rubbished Chimwendo’s reasoning saying there was no teachers’ strike during DPP government

Teachers have been on stay away strike since Monday 22nd February when schools reopened in order to force government give them the risk allowances and address their grievances
