NGO’s call for equal access to land
Lilongwe Urban Poor People Network LUPPEN in conjunction with Mobilizing and Uniting Development MUD Africa has told Malawians to ensure that men and women have equal access to land.
This was said in Lilongwe during the annual general meeting of LUPPEN aimed at sensitizing both men and women on their right to land acquisition which is not being respected.
“Our organisation is fighting for rights of women residing in Lilongwe City,” said one of the board members of LUPPEN Kate Khomeliwa.
Commenting on the development supervisor for MUD Africa Markus Adolfsson said it is disappointing that a lot of Malawians do not know what the constitution says.
Adolfsson said “every citizen must report when denied their right to land.”
LUPPEN was established on 4th October 2007 with an aim of eradicating extreme poverty among residents of Lilongwe City.
