Sight Savers-APAM Request Government To Fulfill Promise

Sight savers and Association of persons with albinism in Malawi APAM have called on Malawi’s government to deliver its promise to protect persons with albinism.

The two organizations have said this in statement jointly released as they commemorate International Albinism Awareness Day.

They urge government to take serious steps to implement its 2018 national action plan.

Sight Savers and APAM argue that unless government delivers on its plan an estimated 134, 636 people with the condition are at risk of being murdered or abducted.

Sight Savers Malawi country director Bright Chiwaula says the theme for this year is “Still standing strong” therefore the time is now for all Malawians to show enough is enough and demonstrate the strength of public feeling on this issue.

APAM national coordinator Overstone Kondowe says they need to see concrete actions and plans being implemented.
