Government Awards Best Teachers

Ministry of Education, Science and technology has awarded best performing teachers during the commemoration of world Teachers Day in Lilongwe.

Speaking after the presentation of the awards Minister of Education William Susuwele Banda asked teachers to work hard in their profession to develop the country.

Susuwele Banda said the teachers’ hard work helps students to pass with flying colours and become responsible citizens.

“Teachers need to be student friendly and the ministry will focus on promoting them,” he said

In his remarks, one of the awardees who is Deputy head teacher at Mitondo CDSS in Chikwawa, Laston Milis, said the awards have motivated them to work hard.

In her remarks, head of Cooperation at European Union, Sandra, commended ministry of education for inspiring the teachers with the awards.

“The ministry should address the problems that teachers face in order to attract more young ones into the profession,” Sandra said

Sandra urged the teachers to continue working hard for the betterment of the country.

During the event, 6 best secondary school head teachers got a scholarship to upgrade their profession at Unicaf University.

This year’s world teacher’s day was commemorated under the theme ” *Young teachers: The future of the Profession*”.
